Veterinarians

Dr. Barker is a 1994 graduate of Colorado State University Veterinary Medicine program. He has been with Mesa Veterinary Clinic since graduation and treats all species, which makes him a well- rounded and much respected veterinarian. His devotion to the clinic, clients, and his family is admirable. He shares his love of veterinary medicine with the youth of our community through the 4-H and FFA programs. His interests include farming and raising quality market lambs and market goats that his children show at livestock shows across the country. He loves spending time with his wife Erin and children Jacob and Jessica, cheering on the Colorado Rapids and Chelsea Football clubs.

Dr. Tiffany spend many hours at the clinic as a youth shadowing her father, Dr. Bob Barr. Dr. Tiffany is a 2008 graduate of Colorado State University and has been at Mesa Vet Clinic since. She is certified in acupuncture, as a medical option, with several patients currently under treatment. She is an owner to this practice and is devoted to patient care and the success of the Clinic. Tiffany enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as camping.

Dr. Matt grew up on a small acreage just outside of Lennox, South Dakota. He was active in 4-H and FFA with the family’s horses and a few cows. He obtained a degree in Animal Science from South Dakota State University in 1998 and his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2003. Dr. Matt enjoys the challenges a mixed animal veterinarian faces. However, he has taken an interest in small animal surgery and medicine. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, along with their dogs and two cats. He also volunteers time with Pueblo County 4-H Foundation and recently became a district representative for Colorado Veterinary Medical Association. He joined Mesa Vet Clinic in June of 2003 and is a valuable asset to the clinic.

Dr. Fitzgerald is a native to Pueblo and graduated from veterinary school at Colorado State University in 2012. He became interested in veterinary medicine growing
up around dogs and horses. He started volunteering at Mesa Veterinary Clinic in 2005 and was delighted to accept a position at the Clinic following graduation in 2012. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing guitar.

Dr. Tara Renkes comes to us from Tuskegee University joining our clinic in July 2019. She is originally from Spring, Texas. She brings with her a tender and caring bedside manner offering high level veterinary care. She has a passion for mixed animal medicine and a desire to improve pet's quality of life, regardless of the species. She enjoys cooking, the Colorado outdoors and of course, pet quality time. She has a cat, Ima and dogs, WIlla and Tesla. We are happy to have her on staff!

Dr. Nicole Burke joined our clinic in August 2019 from Tuskegee University. She is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. She is certified in Equine Manipulation and has 2 horses of her own. She has a passion for mixed animal and special passion for pigs! She even has a pig named "Leroy Jethro Piggs" with a modeling job! She also has crew of canines. She brings to an open heart for all species as well as an open and caring beside manner. We are happy to have her join our team!
Staff

Sandy is a Triage Care Lead VT and has been a vet tech since 1982, and holds an Associate degree in Animal Health Science. She came from South Dakota and has lived in Pueblo since 1975. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1980 and then graduated from National College in 1982. She has many pets, a Boston terrier, several house cats, a parrot, and a horse. It has been her goal in this career to make a difference in animal lives, and to give them love and quality care as their nurse. She treats her patients as if they were her own. Her favorite areas in the job are surgery and treatment. Horses have always been her favorite animal and she loves to ride in the mountains. She also enjoys crafts, sewing, books, and just being with her family, 2 and 4 legged ones. She has worked at Mesa Vet since 2000. She loves the devotion that all the staff give to the business every day. Mesa Vet is one big family and every one has a big heart. They pull together to help you, the client, and your beloved pet.

Kari is our Inventory Manager and Large Animal Training Lead. She grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa where she was active in 4-H, Hunter/ Jumpers, and CREW. Kari graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL in 2004, with a bachelors in Biology (pre-vet). This is where she found her passion for tech work. In 2004, she moved to Denver to attend Bel-Rea and graduated in 2005 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. She has worked at multiple vet clinics including emergency, specialty clinics, and equine hospitals. Kari has been an employee at Mesa Vet since February 2011. Her favorite part of her job is dental cleanings and large animal work. She has a horse and a miniature horse that she competes in Reining and AQHA shows. She also has 3 large breed dogs.

Shaniqua has been with the clinic for a number of years. She is a Client Care Specialist and pet food guru. She is a graduate from Pima Medical Institute with a veterinary assistant certificate. She is Pueblo native and enjoys family time with her 4 children and multiple 4 legged kids. She carries great expertise and is always willing to help.

Stephanie is our Lead Client Care Specialist and joined our team in 2015 bringing years of experience in veterinary client care. She is very detailed and prides herself in making every client feel special. She is also our resident German Shepherd lover with 2 of her own, as well as some brave felines and exotic birds.

Monica is our practice manager and joined the clinic in January 2016. She graduated from Fairmont State College as veterinary technician in 1995 as a Certified Veterinary Technician and from Grand Canyon University with a BS in Applied Management in 2014. She has cats, dogs and birds.
She enjoys time with her family, fishing and ministry work.

Rebecca is a veterinary assistant graduate from the Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology (CAVT). She joined our team in February 2016 when she was a new graduate. We have watched her grow into a strong technician. She has multiple pets including horses, pigs and dogs. She enjoys equine and outdoor activities. She is always willing to help and make others smile!

Cecily is out Lead Veterinary Technician and joined our team in 2016 with years of behavioral experience from working in kennel setting. She loves diagnostics and helping the veterinarians gather the necessary information for diagnosis. She enjoys spending time with her family. She is originally from Utah and has made Pueblo her home with her many critters!

Paige is our Lab Area Lead VT and is a 2017 graduate from Pima Medical Institute-Colorado Springs Veterinary Assistant Program. She joined our team following her externship experience in 2017. She is a Pueblo native with a passion for pitbull rescues. She has a big heart and a caring nature. Paige has been our Safety Coordinator since 2020 and works diligently to keep our practice safe!

Brenna is one of our Veterinary Technicians and is a veterinary assistant graduate from Pima Medical Institute and joined our team following her externship in 2017. She is dedicated to challenging the team to a new level and has been instrumental in forming some new patient care shifts. She has 2 four legged kiddos that keep her busy and cause their fair amount of trouble.

Savanah is one of our Veterinary Technicians and is a 2017 graduate from Pima Medical Institute Veterinary Assistant Program and is a Pueblo native. She completed her externship with us and was offered a position. She was determined to be a great fit by the team. We enjoy her personality and sense of humor. She always keeps us laughing!

Kersten is one of our Veterinary Assistants and joined us in 2019 and brings a passion for pets, photography and learning. She works at the front desk and the exam room area. She also manages all of our Home Again Microchip enrollments, She offers and caring and compassionate attitude for our clients and patients.
